BRIEF BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
Very little is known of Castiel. He is an angel who describes himself as a warrior of God and who reached into Hell itself to pull Dean Winchester back out (leaving a hand shaped burn on Dean's shoulder.) His true face caused a psychic's eyes to burn and melt when she tried to summon him (after she ignored his warnings to turn back) as well as a group of demons who tried the same. His true voice caused glass to shatter and blood to pour from Dean's ears. His abilities so far have been shown to be able to walk through various devil traps, survive multiple bullets and Ruby' demon killing knife, appear in Dean's dreams and send Dean back in time. Like demons, he walks the mortal world in a human vessel. Unlike demons he chose a devout man who "prayed for this." The effect on the human of him leaving the body is unknown. (It is fatal to most when demons leave) His wings appear as black shadows behind him when he choses to reveal them.

His goal is to stop the opening of the seals that Lilith is opening and thus stop Lucifer from walking free.
